My goal is to work with a special ed population, so I believe my mission to be to "help students reach their full potential", whatever potential that may be.
In some cases that could be based on developmental levels, and other cases on emotional abilities.

I'm also in the special education world, my mission is very similar to yours. I don't deal with severe students; therefore, I feel my students can learn a lot by just learning how to be nice people. Learning what may be socially acceptable and what is not.
I am a pre-k teacher and I also want my students to reach their highest potential. I probably teach similar social skills to my students that you teach with your special ed students.
